gear
I'm always a bit reluctant to speak about gear, even if per times it can be one of the favourite conversation topics between Photographers.
It is true that gear helps, however, it does help a lot more going out and use whatever gear you have and, in my own experience, is surprising how much further a piece of gear can be pushed the more is used and the better the Photographer knows it.
As an example, the only reason I have upgraded from my initial mirrorless camera body, was the fact that the battery was not able to cope more than an hour in extreme cold conditions to capture Startrails, that per times can take several hours to capture.
Having this in mind, I also acquired more than 90% of my gear second-hand as this is an amazing way of also helping the environment and a huge wallet relief!
Another quite common question is what to invest first when starting, I believe the best answer is time and knowledge, is always a better option to invest on a good Photography course and with that comes the usage and exploration of the capabilities of the equipment.
If the question would be less generic and more gear oriented, then I would say good glass is always a lot more important than the camera body. Primes are amazing and cheaper in comparison with zooms, they also force one to learn better about composition, although there are occasions where a zoom is required, mainly in Landscape, as per times to "zoom" with our own feet, moving backwards and forwards is just not possible if near a cliff or a narrow passage.
I have started with Primes only, and in time experimented with a few genres until settled with my two favourites, Landscape and Astrophotography Landscape, and have exchanged some of the initial primes for zooms for the convenience and requirements of more demanding conditions of outdoors Landscape Photography.
So here is a summary of the gear I currently use and how I go about carrying it around:

I'm also a big advocate of Printing, with one of my favourite Photography Moto An image is not finished until is a print!
I seriously believe a Print is still the best way to really and truly appreciate an image and also the final part of the process, even if now a days we live in an always connected digital world, nothing can still beat the physical touch and smell of paper!
I highly recommend to anyone that loves Photography to have at least once an image printed!
With this huge passion for the entire Photography process, I also have printing equipment, in the same way as all other equipment, acquired second-hand, and recently had the pleasure to become a PermaJet Brand Affiliate. If you do your own prints, an affiliate discount code can be found on the main about page.
